- 105 hours of music for 9 hours on air each week. That is about 11 times what one Sunday can play, so no two Sundays sound the same. Shuffled, part of the Smooth Operator Mix.
Mystic Cafe closes the week from 15:00 on Sunday until midnight. It lives in a narrow stone alley at dusk: brass lanterns, a glimpse of the sea at the end of the street, conversations getting quieter as the evening goes on.
The music has a mysterious edge. Ben Böhmer, Rodriguez Jr.’s “Mistral” and Joris Voorn’s “Planet Nine” bring melodic depth; Miguel Migs and Lisa Shaw’s “This Melody” brings soul; Moby’s “This Wild Darkness”, MoShang’s “Pagoda”, Lemongrass and Cantoma bring the world-music colours and dusky downtempo the show is named for. Now and then a familiar name like Daft Punk slips in, slowed to Sunday-evening speed.
It is the station’s Sunday ritual, from coffee in the late afternoon to the last glass before Monday.
